Photographer Showdown, Whistler.
Still no digi cam, so sOrry abOOt that. I've been in Whistler for a few days shooting portraits of some very nice young skiers. We had good weather, good times running and dancing and being crazy all night (thanks Shaun and Stephanie and Grete and Rory and Sarah and Jessica and...), relaxing days, incredible Veggie Benedict and epic late night veggie burgers.
I also got to check out the notorious photographer showdown, and see 5 slideshows. I personally was extra inspired by every one of them, so many cool experiences captured and shared. The place is always packed and sitting with tons of friends, seeing other friends and familiar places one the big screen is great. Its really fun to me to debate the judging and as usual I disagreed with the outcome. But then again, its the beauty of photography - one persons vision is all that matters (except that I'm ignoring that a lot of the images were shot for companies so, that's a part of it too.)
I'll say that my 2 favorites were Jeff Curtes, who's been everywhere and has a feel for intimate reportage that translates from his personal work to his work for the big B, and Nick Hamilton. Nick's technical ability and the detail he puts into the photos from start to print is something I strive for. And he fucking killed the editing and music side of putting together a slide show. Nice work to everyone though.
Aside from that, I'm happy to be on the way home even if I have no flight and I'm stuck in something called the Maple Leaf Lounge in the Vancouver Airport. Good thing I hauled ass on my way to the airport thinking I was gonna be late for my flight...
OK. Love to the internets. I'm out.
